01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located along the serene Jalan Mengkuang in Taman Raya, Restoran Udang Galah Orang Minyak stands as a beacon for lovers of fresh, hearty Malaysian seafood cuisine. Specializing in the succulent and generously sized udang galah (giant freshwater prawns), this eatery offers a vivid taste of Pahang’s rich culinary heritage, perfectly blending traditional flavors with comforting, homestyle cooking.

Signature dishes here include the beloved Udang Galah Masak Lemak Petai, a creamy, aromatic delight featuring tender prawns simmered in rich coconut milk with the distinctive, slightly bitter petai beans. Diners will savor how the velvety sauce gently wraps around each prawn, delivering a depth of flavor that is both soothing and exciting without overwhelming heat. Equally celebrated is the Tom Yam Udang Galah—an invigorating, tangy creation bursting with spice and zest, praised by many for its generous portions and well-balanced seasoning.

The menu further impresses with varieties like butter prawns, paprik, and asam pedas, alongside traditional Malaysian accompaniments such as sayur campur (mixed vegetables) and the comfortingly simple telur dadar (omelette). Each dish is thoughtfully prepared to showcase the freshness and natural sweetness of the giant prawns, allowing the richness of local ingredients to shine through.

The dining atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it an ideal stop for families, groups, or travelers seeking an authentic Malaysian experience away from the bustling city. Customers consistently highlight the friendly staff, swift service, and the ease of parking—comforts that contribute to an overall enjoyable and hassle-free meal. The establishment’s clean, casual setting encourages guests to indulge fully in their flavorful dishes while soaking in the countryside vibe.

What sets Restoran Udang Galah Orang Minyak apart is not only its remarkable food quality but also the journey it offers. As one enthusiastic motorbike traveler from Kuala Lumpur shared, the trip itself adds a special kind of “kelazatan” (deliciousness) to the experience, as if the adventure primes your palate for the feast that awaits.

Whether you’re a local or an adventurous foodie exploring Pahang, this restaurant is a true gem for savoring authentic Malaysian prawn dishes at reasonable prices. With generous portion sizes, warm hospitality, and richly satisfying flavors, a visit to Restoran Udang Galah Orang Minyak promises to be a memorable culinary journey that will linger in your taste buds long after the last bite.

1. The place is quite far, our journey from KL by motorbike was awesome. Perhaps that added “kelazatan” to the food 2. We ordered a set (for 2) Udang Galah Masak Lemak Petai. It consisted 2 plates of rice, a bowl of Masak Lemak Udang Galah with Petai (8 pieces of Udang and plenty of Petai), sayur campur and a telur dadar. Masak Lemak is so penat, so sedap and not spicy. The sayur can be fresher and telur dadar is telur dadar (what else to improve la??? Maybe add some ???) 3. We ordered the most fancy drink available on the menu and we have no regret (I don’t know how to describe but trust me, it’s good) p/s: we came in a big group hence the waiting time is quite high. My advice prepare/ choose the menu in advance and once you reach there order immediately

They serve big prawns cooked in various flavors, from butter prawn to paprik to asam pedas. We came in a big group and was recommended the set that came with many sets of prawns and a few fish, vegetable and egg dishes. All so tasty. All came up to RM36/pax which is really good value. Worth stopping by if you're in Bera

Food taste great, prawns are very fresh, asam pedas salivating, pattaya fried rice so tasty we finished it (we eat less carbs now). The only things to improve are having more sauce for tiga rasa, and find some ways to chase away those annoying flies. Otherwise everything is great at a very good price
